Extra paint from the iconic Brooklyn Bridge is now the property of a few lucky bidders after it was recently auctioned off by New York state officials.
In a two-week auction, the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services sold off a total of 55 five-gallon buckets of unused "Brooklyn Bridge Tan" paint.

When bidding on the paint ended, the high-gloss alkyd enamel raked in $829 from three auctions with a total of 34 bidders.
Price-per-bucket varied among the listings, with the lowest price being $10 (10 buckets for $100), followed by $11.24 (25 buckets for $281), and $22.40 (20 buckets for $448).
Old, Unused Paint
Most of the paint was purchased 10 years ago for touch-up on the bridge.
However, the city later decided it would be more efficient to cover the entire span with a more durable paint, after scraping away the old paint to bare steel, a Transportation Department spokesperson explained.
The city was also selling unused paint in other colors, including Pulaski red and aluminum green, and several buckets of rust-inhibitive primer.
The Transportation Department spokesperson said the other paint listed may have exceeded the recommended shelf life or are colors that are no longer used on the city's bridges.
