A new hands-free escape system designed for workers in commercial construction tops a list of safety equipment just introduced by Capital Safety.

The Minneapolis-based manufacturer of fall-protection equipment has rolled out the Rollgliss R520 Escape System, a fully automatic means of evacuation from elevated work surfaces. The system is part of the DBI-SALA rescue line.

In addition to the escape system, the company also announced the launch of a new lanyard design at the 2013 World of Concrete held Feb. 5-8 in Las Vegas, NV.

Hands-Free Escape, Secure Descent

The escape system is compact and easy to use with aerial lifts, bucket trucks, towers and cranes, according to the company.

The system has been tested to meet OSHA, ANSI and CSA industry standards.

“A key element to fall protection is having a rescue plan. In most instances, the R520 can act as that plan,” said Jeff Martin, hard goods senior project manager at Capital Safety.

“Because it operates automatically and requires minimal training, it serves as a safer, more efficient alternative to manual descent systems,” Martin said.

Integrated rope ears allow for a controlled descent speed of 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 feet per second, and dual redundant brakes offer added security, safety and peace of mind during an automatic descent, the company said.

The design of the system also features a bi-directional hub for multiple consecutive descents. Durable cast aluminum housing and steel snap hooks ensure optimum user safety even in the harshest of environments, Capital Safety said.

Industry ‘First’ in Fall Protection

Capital Safety says that its new DBI-SALA EZ-Stop Lanyard offers the industry’s first modular design with components that can be replaced individually when worn or damaged.

The company further says the lanyard is "lighter, stronger and more durable than ever."

The EZ-Stop Lanyard’s patented one-handed quick connect allows changing leg length, hook type and size, and single- or twin-leg configuration on site, the company says.

It also features the Hi-10 shock pad, billed as the smallest shock pad in the world. The Hi-10 fiber is resistant to abrasion, moisture, chemicals and cuts, the company said.

Based in Minneapolis, MN, Capital Safety operates 20 manufacturing, distribution and training facilities worldwide.
