New U.S. requirements for classifying chemicals and communicating hazardous information on container labels and material safety data sheets will be the topic of a free upcoming webinar by SSPC and JPCL.

“Complying with the Updated OSHA Hazard Communication Standard” will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon ET Dec. 5.

OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard: 1910.1200 was updated this year to align with the UN Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

The webinar will explain the importance of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Hazard Communication Standard: 1910.1200, which was updated May 25 to align with the UN Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

The update provides a uniform global approach to classifying chemicals and communicating hazardous information on container labels and MSDS. The webinar will explain how the update differs from the past version and how to conform to the current version.

The discussion will include how the new changes improve quality and consistency of hazard information in the workplace, making it safer for workers and helping reduce trade barriers, resulting in productivity improvements for American businesses that regularly handle, store, and use hazardous chemicals.

Participants may register here free.

About the Presenter

The presenter will be Heather Stiner, the staff technical expert on protective coatings for SSPC: the Society for Protective Coatings, which is sponsoring the webinar.

Stiner’s career includes positions with PPG Industries and Sauereisen Inc. As a chemist in R&D at Sauereisen, she was responsible for all organic products manufactured by the company. At SSPC, Stiner performs technical writing, contributes articles to the JPCL, responds to scientific inquiries, and acts as a technical resource for members. She is also a member of the American Chemical Society, ASTM, and NACE.

Registration, CEU Credits

This program is part of the JPCL/SSPC Webinar Education Series, which provides continuing education for SSPC recertifications and technology updates on important topics.

SSPC is an accredited training provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE), and Professional Engineers in Florida may submit SSPC Webinar Continuing Education Units to the board. To do so, applicants must download the FBPE CEU form and pass the Webinar Exam, which costs $25.
