Companies Partner on Corrosion System

Strategic Corrosion Management (SCM) and ecom Instruments UK have announced a partnership to create a new series of corrosion management solutions and ATEX-approved equipment.

The partnership will integrate SCM's flagship corrosion management software, RISCm (Risk, Integrity & Strategic Corrosion Management), into ecom Instruments' laptop computers and touch-screen tablets.

Combining RISCm software with rugged laptops will allow corrosion management in hazardous areas, the partners say.

Immediate Feedback

Using the laptops, technicians will be able to check, integrate, and analyze corrosion from anywhere in a plant and provide immediate feedback on changing conditions, according to SCM.

The equipment has direct access to information such as document management, reporting systems, and plant drawings, allowing site operators to immediately determine the status of an item and report back as necessary.

SCM said it had field-tested the devices and had sent them to more than 60 production and process facilities. The devices are being applied to real-time survey data collection on more than 20,000 transits and penetrations on offshore assets, the company said.

The laptops have been engineered to meet Zone II classification for explosion protection.

"The use of the devices will help make the link between specialist service supply and in-house management completely seamless," said Ian Cordingley, managing director of SCM.

"This allows specialist knowledge and inspection results to be absorbed into the clients' management system immediately, and since there is no duplication of data, or errors in translating from one system to another, the information can be applied straight away."

Equipment for Hazardous Areas

ecom Instruments' computers are engineered to meet Zone II classification of explosion protection and comply with ATEX directives, the EU-developed standard regulations for equipment used in hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.

SCM, headquartered in Northumberland and part of the TCI Group, is a global provider of corrosion management equipment and serivces and control and corrosion prevention techniques, including coatings selection.

Assamstadt, Germany-based ecom Instruments manufactures and supplies specialist technical equipment that is designed and certified to be used in hazardous areas, such as oil refineries, chemical plants, and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.
