The coating is designed to protect ship cargo holds from both mechanical damage and the severe abrasion caused by loading hard, angular cargoes. Hempadur Impact is formulated for abrasion-, impact- and corrosion resistance, as well as easy cleaning between cargoes.
Price vs. Performance
Hempel recommends Hempadur Impact for shipowners who want a high-performance cargo hold coating with an attractive price/performance ratio. The coating is designed for a 7½-year major repair interval.
“Hempadur Impact has been specifically developed for bulk carrier operators who want to extend cargo hold coating repair intervals, but don’t want to invest in the highest-performing coatings,” said Michael Aamodt, Group Marine Product Manager.
“It offers high-end impact resistance to prevent ‘shooting’ damage from high-speed loading and a high glass transition temperature to ensure the coating remains hard when exposed to warm cargoes.”

The low-VOC epoxy is available in gray, red and aluminum shades. It can be applied year round to steel surfaces prepared to a minimum of Sa 2.
