Rust-Oleum Industrial Brands has unveiled what it says is a first for North America: a hybrid epoxy primer designed for corrosion protection on metal surfaces.
ROC-Prime 100 Hybrid Epoxy Primer uses a new resin that “provides two-component performance in a single-component formula,” according to the company.

Rust-Oleum calls ROC-Prime 100 its highest-performing single-component primer.
Applications and Features
The water-based, epoxy amine adduct primer is designed to be top-coated with any paint technology, including alkyd, acrylic, epoxy and urethane coatings. It is suitable for interior or exterior applications that require heavy-duty protection from corrosion, the manufacturer says.
The primer features:
• Two popular primer colors (red and gray);
• Less than 100 g/l VOC; and
• Fast recoat time.
ROC-Prime 100 is compliant across all of North America and can be applied by brush, roller or spray gun, the manufacturer says. The primer withstands temperatures up to 200 degrees and dries to handle in two to four hours for fast return to service.
Approval by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Agriculture Canada is pending.
Rust-Oleum Industrial Brands has manufactured coatings for use in industrial and commercial maintenance applications for nearly 100 years.
