Protective coatings maker Hempel has launched high-solids versions of its Globic, Oceanic and Olympic antifoulings, with optimized binder systems, microfiber technology, and other new features.
Globic 9000, Globic 6000, Oceanic+ and Olympic+ are designed to allow ship owners to reduce the environmental impact of their vessels by delivering lower-VOC antifouling protection that cuts fuel consumption and associated emissions.

All of the new products feature optimized binder systems; polishing rates; biocides; solids levels; and patented inorganic microfiber technology, which is designed like steel reinforcement in concrete to provide additional mechanical strength and elasticity
Globic 6000 & 9000
Both Globic 9000 and Globic 6000 are based on patented nano-capsule binder technology, which Hempel has been refining for a decade. Hempel says its analysis of antifouling based on this technology shows little evidence of fouling after five years at sea.
Globic 9000 is Hempel’s new top-end antifouling. An evolution of Globic NCT, it can be specified for 90-month docking intervals.
Globic 9000 is suitable for both new building and maintenance of bottom and boot top on deep-sea-going vessels worldwide that operate at low to high speeds in aggressive fouling conditions. The hydrolyzing antifouling uses nano-capsule acrylate binder technology for highly controlled self-polishing.
Globic 6000 is a new product in the Globic series that builds on the same technology as Globic 9000. Suitable for 60-month intervals, Globic 6000 is a self-polishing, hydrolyzing antifouling that also uses the nano-capsule binder-system and fiber technology.
Hempel recommends Global 6000’s bioactive mixture for both new building and maintenance of bottom and boot top on deep-sea-going vessels that operate at medium to high speeds, in normal to aggressive fouling conditions, with a medium level of activity.
Oceanic+, Olympic+
Oceanic+ is a hydrolyzing antifouling coating designed to provide cost-effective, reliable performance in most trading waters. A self-polishing antifouling based on zinc-carboxylate technology with a high solid volume, Oceanic+ can be specified for up to 60 months.

The bioactive mixture is designed for both new building and maintenance of bottom and boot top on deep-sea-going vessels operating at medium to high speed, with high activity levels and short idle periods, in fouling conditions that are not overly aggressive.
Olympic+ is an evolution of Hempel’s longstanding Olympic antifouling, designed for protection in “not overly aggressive fouling waters” for up to 36 months, according to the manufacturer. The self-polishing, rosin-based formulation is recommended for maintenance and new building of bottom and boot top on deep-sea-going vessels that operate at medium to high speeds, with high activity levels and short idle periods.
New Online Antifouling Help
With the launch of the new line, Hempel has also unveiled a new website, to help customers select the right antifouling for their needs.
An interactive 60-second test allows customers to quickly find the antifoulings that best meet the specific demands of their fleet.
‘We are proud that our new antifoulings offer our customers the confidence that comes with proven performance,” said Torben Rasmussen, Hempel’s Group Product Manager for Fouling Control.
“All our new products are built on tried-and-tested technology and are developed using our unique method for evaluating and optimizing antifoulings.”
