An historic bridge in Ohio will celebrate its centennial a few years early by receiving a new paint job.
Reliant Enterprises, LLC (Lawrenceburg, IN) won a $729,000 contract from Sandusky County (OH) to clean and recoat all structural steel surfaces of the Tindall Bridge, a 97-year-old, two-span, 334-foot-long x 16-foot-wide riveted steel through truss bridge over the Sandusky River.

The bridge was constructed by Champion Iron Company in 1915 and was last painted in 1989. For years, there have been varying rumors of the bridge being haunted by ghosts, which were mentioned in an earlier PaintSquare News story on the bridge.
Scope of Work
The contract includes abrasive blast cleaning the steel, with containment, to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10) before recoating with an organic zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate, and a urethane finish.

| A 2011 inspection rated the deck, superstructure and substructure as satisfactory but gave the bridge a sufficiency rating of 46.5 out of 100. |
Sandusky County also conducted a competitive bid and is negotiating a contract with Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (Babylon, NY) to perform NACE-certified coatings inspection services.
