Dow Coating Materials has launched a new brand to highlight its product line for external protective coatings designed to withstand the hot, corrosive Middle Eastern petrochem environment.

The new brand, called OUDRA, is being introduced this week at the 14thAnnual Middle East Corrosion Conference in Bahrain. The product line (pronounced “OO-Drah”) is a combination of Ouroboros, a sign of infinity, and Durability.

‘Key Priority’

“Pipeline and equipment corrosion protection is a key priority for the oil and gas industry in the Middle East,” says Bilal Ghalaini, Regional Commercial Manager for DCM in the Middle East and Africa.

“Coatings systems are essential to extending the life cycle of installed pipe systems and preventing corrosion-induced failures, which can lead to leakages that require an extensive shutdown and repairs, resulting in a loss of revenues.

“Our new OUDRA brand of products helps protect new assets and facilitates the maintenance of existing ones under the most extreme temperatures and environmental conditions.”

The product will also be available in the United States and Europe.

Performance Formulations

OUDRA “was driven by the market need to move the industrial space towards a more sustainable solution that can still meet the performance requirements of the most extreme environments,” said Yoke Loon, general manager, Dow Coating Materials, Asia Pacific.

With OUDRA, Dow is “bringing a specialty mindset to this segment to offer products with differentiated performance benefits such as flexibility and durability.”

The Oudra line includes the waterborne OudraSperse WB, a binder that is a waterborne epoxy dispersion, and OudraCure WB, a hardener. Other products in the Oudra series include the high-performance powder coating OudraTough HPC, OudraTherm HPC, OudraCure HPC and OudraCool HPC.

“With our OudraSperse waterborne offering, we have done extensive testing to debunk the myth that waterborne coatings are not as good as solventborne coatings in the industrial space,” said Loon. “Our lab results show that coatings formulated with DCM’s OudraSperse are as good as, if not better than, solvent-borne coatings.”
