Vibol Coatings of Belgium has introduced a water-based, one-component, zinc-rich protective coating for the protection of blasted steel.
The coating, called Aquazinc, has two applications:
• In diluted form, it provides temporary, weldable corrosion protection of grit-blasted steel during storage or transportation; or
• Undiluted, it can be used as a zinc-rich primer on grit-blasted steel under any type of conventional coating system.
Although primarily used thus far on automatic blast and spray lines, the coating can also be applied manually, the manufacturer reports.

The coating is available throughout Europe, Asia and Australia, and the company is currently seeking partners and distributors for the North American market. Contact Patrick Mostrey to learn more.
Features and Characteristics
Vibol says the coating’s introduction follows years of research and development to overcome packaging issues, gas formation, coating instability and other problems.
As a single-component, water-based, 63% solids product, Aquazinc does not have the cost, lengthy drying time, solvent emissions or application cracking potential of inorganic zinc silicates, according to the manufacturer. No mixing is required; cleanup is with water or Aquazinc thinner. More information: www.vibol.be. (English-speaking users should choose EN in the language options.)
