DuPont Powder Coatings has teamed up with The Thermoclad Company, of Erie, PA, to provide a new line of thermoplastic powder coatings for corrosion protection.
Available throughout North America, DuPont ABCITE by Thermoclad has been formulated as a tough, chip-resistant finish that provides corrosion and UV protection without a primer. The coating can be electrostatically applied or fluid bed dipped.

ABCITE is based on DuPont’s Surlyn resin, the same polymer used for the outer surface of golf balls. End-use applications include park and playground equipment, fence panels, balustrades, railings and light poles.
Performance and Features
The product is available in a large color palette and is designed to provide:
• Corrosion and salt spray resistance;
• Adhesion & impact resistance (on metal, glass and plastics);
• Abrasion resistance;
• Chemical resistance; and
• Soft touch / Noise dampening.
ABCITE has been approved for potable water contact, although the manufacturer recommends consulting with local approvals.
The product can be applied with a one-pass coating process (no primer or curing required) by dipping or spraying. The VOC-free, halogen-free coating has a five-year shelf life, with no refrigeration required.
