Pipe System Made for Subsea Insulation

Global pipe coating supplier Bredero Shaw has introduced a subsea insulation system designed for unlimited water depth capability.

Thermotite ULTRA is designed for oil & gas, subsea and small-diameter pipelines and is comprised of a specially engineered blend of polymeric materials with “unique mechanical and thermal properties,” according to Bredero Shaw, a division of ShawCor.

The system “assures complete system integrity during service, and reduced energy loss in steady state and transient conditions,” the company says.

Features and Performance

According to the manufacturer, Thermotite ULTRA offers superior insulation properties and mechanical performance in a thinner insulation without glass microspheres that could compromise thermal performance if broken or degraded. The system has also has passed tests for Resonant Fatigue, Trawl Board Impact, Stinger Roller and Tensioner Clamp.

Thermotite ULTRA can be applied to pipes ranging from four to 30 inches in diameter using conventional equipment at Bredero Shaw plants in Texas, Mexico, Scotland, Norway, Malaysia and Indonesia.
