Industrial coating equipment maker Nordson Corp. has introduced an automatic spray gun designed to increase productivity and improve finish quality.
The new Quattro automatic spray gun incorporates fast cycling, fine atomization and easy maintenance for general finishing in either non-circulating or circulating heated airless applications, the manufacturer says.
Color Changing, Overspray Features
The stainless-steel unit features a four-in-one valve design to enable automatic color changing without having to reposition the spray gun, according to Nordson. Up to four different colors—or three colors and a flushing solvent—can be used in the gun.

“Quattro spray guns are ideal for instant color change in general finishing and drum painting applications,” says Brad Syrowski, business development manager for Nordson’s liquid systems group.
“The design allows four colors to circulate through the fluid gun bodies at the same time, allowing only one color to be sprayed. The operator can select the appropriate color by simply actuating the respective air piston of the gun.”
The gun is designed to deliver fine atomization and a soft, controllable spray for excellent finish quality with minimal overspray.
When used with Nordson nozzles, the Quattro can provide improved atomization with a wide range of coating materials, including high solids and other difficult-to-spray coatings for minimal paint waste, the company says.
An optional heater is available to reduce and control material viscosity for improved operating performance and efficiency.
Maintenance and Clean-up
The Quattro gun incorporates a modular design that allows for quick removal of the spray device, facilitating repair and maintenance with minimal downtime, according to the manufacturer.
A Teflon-coated packing cartridge resists material buildup on the shaft and spring, for easier cleaning and greater durability. The gun’s ball tip and seat design ensures fast, clean on/off operation to eliminate dripping and spitting for reduced rejects, booth cleanup and material costs.
Few moving parts are designed to provide ease of installation and operation. The Quattro gun can be mounted on a half-inch-round bar.
Westlake, OH-based Nordson is a global producer of precision dispensing equipment for adhesives, sealants, liquid and powder coatings and other materials. The company also manufactures systems for UV curing and surface treatment processes.
