JPCL: Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings will greet its 29th year as the industry’s journal of record with a whole new look, expanded features, and a new special issue.

Call it “a journal’s version of coating maintenance,” as editor-in-chief Karen Kapsanis does, in an editor’s note about the changes that premiere in JPCL’s December issue.
The longtime “Voice of SSPC” has been “designed with an eye to the changes in how we all access and share today’s exponentially increasing information, in print and digital formats,” writes Kapsanis, who has directed the journal since 1991.
This will be the first comprehensive upgrade for the “Voice of SSPC” since 2003, and the changes will be seen from cover to cover.
New Look
The journal will keep all of its current popular features, including Maintenance Tips, Problem Solving Forum, Cases from the F-files, Research, Company News and Project Preview.
SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings will also retain its strong presence, with regular news about the society, a column by SSPC leaders, and extensive coverage of the SSPC show and annual Structure Awards.

All of these features will sport a fresh new look that is “easy on the eyes,” says Kapsanis.
New Features
In addition, JPCL will feature four exclusive new features to infuse the practical, the personal and the professional:
• A monthly Q&A with an SSPC Protective Coating Specialist will provide a lively exchange with various SSPC-certified professionals around the world.
• “The Takeaway” will share thoughts and insights on the industry.
• The coatings-themed Crossword Puzzle offers a fun challenge.
• “The Buzz” distills the latest big stories, hot issues, and quiz leaders from PaintSquare News.
Special Issue & Honors
2012 will also feature the debut of JPCL’s first Top Thinkers: The Clive Hare Honors, a unique award that will recognize 24 thought leaders in protective and marine coatings worldwide.
That distinguished group will be featured in a special 13th issue of JPCL in August, and the honorees (including Hare himself) will be contributing material to JPCL throughout the year.
