Anti-Corrosion Film Beats the Heat

Cortec Corp. has introduced an anti-corrosive film designed to reduce cooling time for heat-treated metal products.

Around the world, metal products need to be protected for shipping and storage as soon as possible. When these products come out of production, they can still be very hot and require cooling before packaging.

Comparison of heat-treated metal products

Cortec’s new VpCI-126 TRF (Temperature Resistant Film) is an anti-corrosion film designed to resist temperatures up to 170°C (338°F), so parts can be packaged with less cooling, reducing cycle time. The temperature resistance makes the product ideal for use in foundries, hot mills, and for parts that are heat-treated.

VpCI-126 TRF can be used to protect aluminum, carbon and stainless steels, and yellow metals, and is fully recyclable.

Protection, Production Clean-Up

Designed to provide corrosion protection for a variety of applications, the film molecules vaporize and form a protective shield around stored parts with or without direct contact with the surface.

Vapor phase protection ensures that materials stored using the film are protected from corrosion, even down to the smallest nooks and crannies that traditionally used anti-corrosive coatings can’t reach, according to Cortec.

Bagged metal components

Traditional anti-corrosive coatings require clean-up before materials are usable. When those same materials are stored in VpCI-126 TRF, they are ready to go at any time with no need for cleaning, Cortec says. Inspecting stored materials is simple, because the film is transparent.

With reduced cooling time, metal parts can be packaged sooner than they could with regular polyethylene films.

Based in St. Paul, MN, Cortec Corp. is a global provider of VpCI and MCI corrosion-control technologies for packaging, metalworking, construction, electronics, water treatment, oil & gas, and other industries.
