Larson Electronics has unveiled three new Magnalight explosion-proof lights for painting, petrochem, offshore and other hazardous applications.
4-Foot Light Fixture
Four feet long, with four lamps, the Magnalight EPL-48-4L-LED light fixture is designed to replace traditional fluorescent-equipped fixtures with more light and less power.

The fixture carries UL certification and a Class 1, Division 1 and 2, & Class 2, Division 1 & 2, explosion-proof rating, making it suitable for petrochemical processing, offshore marine operations, paint spray booths, and other applications that require a “powerful and durable explosion-proof lighting solution,” the manufacturer says.
Features and Design
The corrosion-resistant housing is made of copper-free aluminum alloy, while the lamps are enclosed within impact- and heat-resistant Pyrex tubes, making the fixture able to withstand shipyard, oil rig, manufacturing and other marine and industrial applications, according to Larson.
The manufacturer says the lamps provide more light than comparable T5HO fluorescent lamps, yet use half the energy, resist damage from vibrations, and are lighter weight. The light also carries a paint spray booth certification with a T6 rating, said Rob Bresnahan, owner of Larson.
Portable Area Light With Tripod
The EPL-BS-161M-TP1-100 is a tripod-mounted LED light for hazardous locations where flammable vapors, gases and dusts may be present. The unit is UL-rated as Class 1, Division 1-2, Groups C & D, and Class 2, Division 1-2. A 16-inch LED light head produces 10,000 lumens of light while drawing only 150 watts. The eight-pound collapsible tripod elevates the light head to 12 feet.
The head produces a wide flood pattern of light suitable for illuminating tanks, containers and other enclosed areas, the manufacturer says. The unit is highly adjustable, with aluminum construction.
Solar-Powered LED Light
The EXPLED-SOL12 explosion-proof LED light is designed for remote, mine site, pipeline, rig maintenance and other hazardous applications where operators infrequently perform site visits.

This LED light and solar panel combination includes a day/night sensor and a motion sensor to maximize battery life. The unit is powered by a 14.8 volt LiPoly battery that is recharged by a 12-watt solar panel that can be configured to turn on and off only when there is motion and to switch on automatically when ambient light levels drop below 30 lux (typically at sunset). The light runs for 15 hours when fully charged.
