Harsco Minerals has introduced a new surface-preparation abrasive, made from recycled material, to the Southeastern U.S.

The new Iron Horse copper abrasive will be produced by the company’s production facility in Tampa, FL.

Harsco Minerals’ new Iron Horse abrasive is made from a recycled copper co-product.

The new product is “processed from a sustainable, recycled copper co-product” designed for “optimum performance and consistency,” said Harsco Minerals, longtime manufacturer of the Black Beauty brand of coal abrasives.

‘The Right Alternate Abrasive’

“The industry demands more from Harsco Minerals,” said Dominic DeAngelo, the company’s global market manager for abrasives and roofing.

“We took our time to find the right alternate abrasive that not only meets federal leaching procedures, but also provides the same high quality, performance and reliability that our Black Beauty coal abrasives have provided for many years.”

The manufacturer calls the new copper slag product “another high-quality, high-performing, low-dusting, reliable abrasive from a name you can trust.” The low-free-silica, recyclable abrasive is available in extra-fine, fine and medium grades and in several packaging options.

About the Company

Based in Mechanicsburg, PA, Harsco Minerals has been recycling industrial products from around the world for nearly 80 years.  The company is the largest U.S. manufacturer of coal slag abrasives for the blasting market.

Harsco Minerals is a division of Harsco Corp., a Fortune 1000 global industrial services and engineered products company.

Strange, we have been using copper slag as an abrasive for 30++ years, ScanGrit and J-Blast in the UK so cant see this as 'new' by any stretch of the imagination!!
