Flamebloc GS 500 is part of Buckman’s new Flamebloc GS portfolio of specialized products designed to offer fire-retardant protection to a broad range of substrates.
The Flamebloc GS 500 coating has been designed to adhere to a multitude of surfaces requiring fire protection. Buckman says the product offers “an extremely high level of fire protection by forming a thick layer of insulating material when exposed to fire or extreme heat.”

That layer protects the substrate from exposure to the fire, the manufacturer reports.
The product is suitable for interiors, but it can also be applied in an exterior environment if top-coated with an approved exterior coating, Buckman says.
GS Series
The Flamebloc GS series also includes Flamebloc GS 503, designed for use as a tie coat primer where required; and Flamebloc GS 602, a flame-retardant powder additive for coatings.
Manufactured from 100% Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) raw materials, the GS series is designed to meet industry needs for green fire retardant technology.
Based on amino functional ammonium polyphosphate chemistry, these clear, water-based, zero-VOC products do not require a halogen donor to provide char-forming or intumescent substrate protection, meeting a host of standards and specifications required in many industries, the manufacturer says.
These products can be applied directly by roll, dip, spray or brush, and can be top coated for added protection while still maintaining their primary utility. In addition to fully formulated coatings, the series includes an adhesive system and a solid version.
