Global dry-ice-blasting pioneer Cold Jet has reached an agreement to distribute the Farrow System blast-cleaning system in a network that will soon expand worldwide.

The Farrow System, demonstrated at SSPC 2011, uses heat and a minimal amount of a proprietary recycled-glass blast medium called Green Clean to remove protective and marine coatings, graffiti and oxidation.

The Farrow System removes coatings, graffiti and oxidation with heat and a proprietary blast medium made from a natural volcanic crystal.

Cold Jet, based in Loveland, OH, is the largest dry-ice technology company in the world. For more than 20 years, the company has led the development of dry-ice blasting and dry ice production technology.

The companies’ new distribution agreement, announced Friday (Sept. 30), designates Cold Jet as the exclusive distributor of Farrow Systems in the Eastern United States, with plans to expand availability of the Farrow technology globally in the next 12 months.

Win-Win

The partnership, first proposed earlier this year by Cold Jet, leverages both Cold Jet’s well-established global sales force and marketing capabilities and Farrow’s patented technologies, said Farrow vice president John Skross.

While not directly competing on applications, the companies share a target market—global industrial cleaning and coating removal–— which makes for a “great partnership,” Skross said.

The relationship will give Farrow exposure to the mainstream blasting industry worldwide and expand Cold Jet’s offerings to its increasing customer vase.

“Both companies are cutting-edge technologies in their respective industries and by partnering up, especially in this global economy, just makes sense,” Skross said.

Green Cleaning Portfolio

Cold Jet sees the heat-activated Farrow System as a good fit with its environmentally friendly cleaning focus.

“This is a great opportunity to meet the growing needs of our customers,” said Cold Jet President and CEO Eugene Cooke III. “While Cold Jet’s dry-ice cleaning technology is recognized worldwide for its effectiveness and business value, we remain committed to adding environmentally responsible cleaning and surface-preparation solutions to our portfolio for all our global customers.

Cold Jet pioneered the use of dry ice for blast-cleaning applications.

“As such, and in instances where sand, soda or walnut shell blasting may have been their only solution before because of required aggressiveness, we can now supply an environmentally responsible solution with the Farrow System.”

‘Well-Kept Secret’

The Farrow System is designed to quickly remove coatings, oxidation, and graffiti from surfaces without damaging them. The fully adjustable system can be used in a variety of applications, from removal of heavy protective and marine coatings to gently cleaning fragile historic artifacts.

The company, based in West Chester, PA, calls the system “one of the most environmentally responsibly blast-cleaning technologies on the market.”

“We are excited to bring our technology to the mainstream of American industrial cleaning practices with Cold Jet,” said Nigel Farrow, founder of the Farrow System. “While our patented slurry blasting technology has been long proven in the maritime and painting and coatings industry, we’ve been a well-kept secret of many companies.

“This new relationship with Cold Jet allows us to bring the Farrow technology to the forefront of best cleaning and surface preparation practices.”

Sales, Service

The Farrow System will now be sold and serviced via Cold Jet’s team of field-based sales and customer-service representatives. Current distributors of the Farrow System will continue to rent and service equipment in conjunction with Cold Jet sales support.
