Fall-protection equipment manufacturer Capital Safety has introduced two new self-retracting lifelines, designed to withstand the harshest operating environments.
The new DBI-SALA 85- and 130-foot Sealed-Blok Self-Retracting Lifelines (SRLs) further expand the company’s line of Sealed-Blok self-retracting lifelines.

The new products are designed for lower ownership cost and maximum work site versatility.
Features and Certification
Capital Safety says the new equipment’s “industry-first features” include:
• Optional RSQ dual-mode rescue capability;
• FAST-Line field-replaceable lifeline;
• IP68 sealed rating certification;
• 420-pound weight capacity;
• Secondary fall arrest rated anchor point; and
• Optional additional integrated retrieval winch.
The equipment has the industry’s heaviest weight capacity and is the first of its kind to achieve the IP68 sealed rating certification, the manufacturer says.
The Ingress Protection (or International Protection) rating, defined by international standard IEC 60529, classifies a product’s ability to keep out dirt, dust, water and other solids and liquids.
All dynamic components, including the motor spring and brake system, are sealed inside the housing.
Two Operating Modes
A built-in carrying handle certified as a secondary fall arrest anchor point provides the user with a dropped-objects protection tie-off point.
The patented RSQ rescue capability allows the user to choose (before beginning work) between automatic rescue mode and fall arrest mode. If automatic rescue is chosen, the SRL will arrest the fall and then automatically lower the worker safely to the ground or the next level. In fall arrest mode, the equipment will arrest the fall and then allow for an assisted rescue.
The option offers work site versatility and optimization for each fall hazard, and may reduce or eliminate the need for separate rescue equipment, the manufacture reports.
Field Replacement
Trained end-users can replace the lifeline in the field. The design provides verification of proper assembly; the SRL will not operate if the cable is installed incorrectly.
“Capital Safety was the first manufacturer to develop self-retracting lifeline technology in the 1940s, and over the course of nearly two decades, the revolutionary Sealed-Blok has been field-proven, operating safely in some of the world’s most challenging work environments,” said Jeff Radichel, senior product manager.
With 20 operating sites worldwide, Capital Safety is a global manufacturer of fall protection, confined space and rescue equipment. The company’s brands include DBI-SALA and PROTECTA.
