Hempel USA has hired Jose Luna, a veteran of AkzoNobel and ICI, as Regional Marketing Manager of the Americas.
Luna’s 13-plus years of experience in the coatings industry include stints at AkzoNobel/International Paint and the former ICI/Devoe Coatings, where he worked in several countries and a variety of roles, including technical service, sales, engineering and strategic marketing.

Luna will be responsible for marine and protective segment marketing activities in the Americas region. He will also be heavily involved in planning for Hempel ‘s “One Hempel-One Ambition” goal to become one of the world’s top 10 coatings companies by 2015.
“We are very excited to have Jose in our executive team,” said Lars Johansen, Group Vice President, Americas. “He brings to this role a detailed understanding of the coating markets in the Americas region and also Global Markets, plus a broad knowledge of global marketing and strategy execution. Jose will play a key role in achieving the new challenging goals.”
Education, Experience
Luna joined Devoe after working for PEMEX, where he managed and led the strategy for protective coatings. At Devoe, he served as Regional Business Development Manager for the Western U.S. before being promoted to Director of Engineering.
When AkzoNobel/International Paint acquired Devoe, Luna became the Americas Oil & Gas Market Manager.
Luna holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering from the Technological University of Panama, an MBA with a specialization in Marketing from the Latina University of Panama, and an MBA Update at University of California at Irvine.
He is bilingual in Spanish and English, in addition to knowledge of Portuguese, and is a NACE-certified coating inspector.
