After more than five generations, Barton Mines Company LLC is shedding its 19th-century identity to become Barton International.
Founded in 1878 to mine and mill garnet for the sandpaper industry, Barton is now the largest supplier of industrial garnet grains and powders in North America.

With operations in California, Louisiana, New York, Virginia and Washington, and a rapidly expanding worldwide network, the company has outgrown its 133-year-old name.
“Barton International better represents the company’s renewed international focus and growing worldwide customer base,” said Board Chairman Charles H. Bracken Jr.
‘Continuously Evolved’
“Since 1878, our family-owned company has continuously evolved to serve new and growing markets and to better service our customers. Meeting the growing global demand for garnet abrasives with the highest-quality and most innovative abrasive solutions and services is our goal.”
The company, based in Glens Falls, NY, will continue to manufacture and distribute garnet abrasive products for waterjet cutting, blast media and many other applications. Barton still owns and operates its namesake mining and milling operations in the Adirondack Mountains.

“While our company name is changing, all core elements of the organization will remain the same,” stated Bracken.
The Barton Group is the parent company of Barton International, Virginia Abrasives Corporation and B-L Holding Company.
