International Paint has introduced Intergard 7020 cargo hold coating, for operators who don’t need or cannot justify the investment in the highest-performing products. Appropriate for all bulk carrier types, Intergard 7020 is formulated to provide good abrasion resistance, long-term corrosion protection, and many other features normally associated with more expensive products.
Available in red and gray, Intergard 7020 is an aluminium-containing, low-VOC, pure epoxy coating that can be applied to surfaces prepared to a minimum of Sa2.

| Cargo holds are subject to the harshest of operating environments, and today’s faster loading techniques are increasing the demands on cargo hold coatings. |
Applicable at temperatures between -50C and +350C, the product has a smooth, glossy, easy-clean surface, is grain certified, and is ready to carry even the harshest cargoes after only 10 days’ cure, according to International Paint.
‘Different Needs’
“Whilst cargo holds are the important revenue-earning spaces of bulk carriers and the areas that can be subject to the severest of operating environments, we understand that our customers have different needs and not all require the protection afforded by the very best technology,” said Rob Taylor, Market Manager Bulk Carriers.
Taylor said the product is “particularly suitable” for upgrading from modified epoxy cargo hold coatings.
The new product expands International Paint’s range of cargo hold coatings, which also include:
· Interbond 201, a surface-tolerant, modified-epoxy, cargo hold coating with a long in-service history;
· Intershield 803, an abrasion-resistant pure epoxy coating; and
· Intershield 803Plus, the company’s toughest cargo hold coating, which was introduced last year.
