Achieving optimal coating thickness on irregular steel surfaces—a critical challenge for complex coatings projects— will be the topic of a free upcoming webinar presented by JPCL and SSPC.
Prominent coating specialist Bob Kogler, a principal with Rampart LLC, will present “Protecting Steel Edges” from 11 a.m. to noon EDT June 8.
 |
| Coatings on irregular steel surfaces are vulnerable to delamination. |
Kogler will describe the basic advantages and disadvantages of various methods of obtaining sufficient coating thickness on edges and other irregular steel surfaces. Coatings in these areas tend to pull away during curing, leaving little or no coverage.
 |
| Presenter Bob Kogler formerly headed corrosion protection and coatings research at the Federal Highway Administration. |
Coating specifiers will be particularly interested in Kogler’s discussion of how to effectively address protecting steel edges in the project specification.
Kogler was formerly the head of corrosion protection and coatings research at the Federal Highway Administration. He is a past president of SSPC and has contributed frequently to JPCL on issues related to protecting concrete and steel highway bridges.
