SMGlobal has released FastMaint CMMS v. 5.4, a software application designed to ease management of plant, fleet, facility and building maintenance.
The software can be used on a single Windows computer or on a LAN. A web-based edition is also available, which can be accessed from any computer using a standard web browser.
Capabilities
SMGlobal says FastMaint CMMS reduces expenses associated with equipment and facility downtime by making it easy to create work orders, allocate resources, assign tasks and projects, and track progress.

Users can set up a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment, vehicles and facilities, “moving your support staff from fire-fighting mode to maintenance management mode,” the manufacturer says.
New features in version 5.4 include the ability to:
- Order non-stock items and services in purchase orders;
- Issue email and mobile phone SMS alerts when work requests are submitted;
- Schedule and email reports;
- Report on submitted and processed work requests;
- Perform status checks on work scheduled for specific equipment or a specific location; and
- Compare current and prior maintenance statistics.
Multiple Editions
FastMaint CMMS Basic Edition allows users to create templates for unplanned and scheduled maintenance work orders. All maintenance tasks can be scheduled automatically. A complete work order database system has custom fields to fit a variety of businesses, with status tracking, job cost reviews, and inventory tracking and reordering. Users can track vendors, equipment and assets.
FastMaint CMMS Standard Edition supports purchase order creation and printing, as well as bar-code processing. It also removes the Basic Edition’s limitation of a maximum of 40 maintenance task templates and 40 equipment and location definitions.
The Professional Edition includes multi-user and network support, as well as a choice of SQL Server or Access database support. FastMaint CMMS Web provides the Professional Edition functionality, with all processing accessible using an ordinary web browser.
FastMaint CMMS v. 5.4 runs under Windows XP/Vista/Windows 2008/7. Prices begin at $495 for a single-user license. Web demos and a trial version are available at http://www.smglobal.com/.
Based in Apex, NC, SMGlobal has provided plant, facility and vehicle maintenance software for institutional, corporate and military customers in a variety of industries since 2002. In 2006, FastMaint CMMS earned SMGlobal the Microsoft ISV/Software Solutions Competency designation.
