CorDEX Instruments’ new UT5000 Intrinsically Safe Ultrasonic Tester measures metal thickness for Non-Destructive Testing and Predictive Maintenance on pipelines and fixed equipment in hazardous locations.
UT5000 comes with CorDEX CONNECT, which uses RFID and software to tag measurements with their location, then organizes the data, giving the engineer a view of the pipeline at any specific location. A corrosion mode option helps identify spots of thinning, while MultiECHO technology is designed to improve accuracy on uneven surfaces. The onboard memory stores up to 1,000 readings.
The unit is designed for rugged environments, with raised buttons and an over-molded body protecting the 3.1-inch color screen. The tool can also be used offshore without obtaining “hot work” permits and has been tested for ATEX and IECEx, Zone 1 IIC T4 hazardous (explosive) areas. The dual-element, 4MHz transducer is adjustable up to 10Hz with accuracy of +/- 0.05mm.
“The UT5000 can safely and rapidly measure any corrosion and with its smart RFID technology, can build the robust report required to identify and trend developing trouble spots,” said Marcus Halliday, CorDEX Instruments director.
