The City of Grand Island, NE, will accept bids April 7 for painting, lead abatement and related work on a combustion turbine enclosure at the Burdick Generating Station.

This project involves cleaning and recoating the exterior surfaces of the station’s GT1 Combustion Turbine Enclosure. The enclosure includes an 80-by-11-by-12-foot building, a 40-by-19-by-12-foot air inlet housing, a 7-by-6-by-9-foot station, turbine discharge and cooling air stacks, metal grating walkway and step surfaces, a roof access ladder, piping, conduit, and junction boxes.

The existing coatings contain 55.6 ppm lead; containment is required.

The GT-1 combustion turbine (left) is one of three at the facility.

The enclosure components will be abrasive blast-cleaned and recoated with zinc-epoxy-urethane (buildings and metals), acrylic (composite roofing), and silicone (stacks) systems.

The project is scheduled to begin Sept. 12 and must be completed by Oct. 28. The unit must remain available for emergency operation on short notice during all stages of the project.
