Monitoring environmental conditions—a make-or-break issue for a coatings project—will be the focus of a free upcoming webinar presented by JPCL and SSPC.
The Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings and the Society for Protective Coatings will present “Monitoring Environmental Conditions for Cleaning and Painting Operations” from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. EDT Wednesday (Feb. 23).
Presenter Bill Corbett of KTA-Tator Inc. will address the procedures associated with monitoring prevailing conditions of air and surface temperatures, relative humidity, dew point temperature and wind speed before and during surface preparation and coating application.

The program is part of the JPCL/SSPC Webinar Education Series, which provides continuing education for SSPC recertifications and technology updates on important topics.
Other recent topics in the series have included disposing of waste water in UHP operations, writing good bridge specifications, and advances in polyurethane and polyurea technology.
Reminder: Respiratory Safety Webinar
Respiratory protection and compliance will be the topic of another JPCL/SSPC Education Series webinar from 11 a.m. to noon EDT Wednesday (Feb. 23).
"Developing an OSHA-Compliant Respiratory Protection Program" will focus on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Respiratory Protection Standard.
Presenter Stan Liang, of KTA-Tator Inc., will address a variety of approaches to controlling worker exposure to respiratory hazards and discuss when OSHA permits the use of respiratory protection.

SSPC is an accredited training provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE), and Professional Engineers in Florida may submit SSPC Webinar Continuing Education Units to the board. Those who wish to do so must download the FBPE CEU form and pass the Webinar Exam. The cost of the test is $25. Registration is available through the SSPC MarketPlace.
Free Bridge Spec Webcast Available
A free webcast on the complexities of specifications for bridge painting is now available at www.paintsquare.com.
"Writing a Good Specification for Bridge Painting" was presented Wednesday (Feb. 16) as part of the SSPC/JPCL Education Series.
Presenter Derrick Castle, of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, reviewed essential items to consider when writing a quality specification for a typical protective coating system that is being applied to a bridge.
