Raymund Singleton

Raymund Singleton, president of Singleton Corp. in Cleveland, OH, has received ASTM International’s 2010 Francis L. LaQue Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to the field of corrosion testing and evaluation.

The award was presented by ASTM International Committee G01 on Corrosion of Metals.

Singleton has gained worldwide recognition for his work on the use of laboratory corrosion tests and the development of equipment for these tests, and he holds U.S. and international patents for both corrosion testing equipment and metal finishing equipment.  He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, OH, in 1971, and has been president of Singleton Corp. since 1979.

Established in 1947, Singleton Corp. is a major manufacturer of accelerated corrosion test chambers and of “barrel-type” metal finishing equipment for bulk finishing of metal parts by electroplating, phosphation, black-oxidizing, metal cleaning and related processes.

Service and Contributions

A member of ASTM International since 1984, Singleton serves as vice chairman of membership on Committee G01 and as vice chairman of Subcommittee G01.05 on Laboratory Corrosion Tests, as well as chairman of Subcommittee G01.05.03 on Cabinet Corrosion Tests.

He is also a member of Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications and the Joint ASTM/NACE Committee on Corrosion. Since 1998, he has served as the author and instructor of the ASTM Technical Professional Training Course on Corrosion Testing.  Committee G01 recognized his work with a Certificate of Appreciation in 1996, and he received the ASTM Award of Merit and title of fellow in 2003.

He is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, where he is active in corrosion testing standards development; the National Association for Surface Finishing; NACE International; SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings; and the Westside Industrial Retention and Expansion Network in Cleveland, OH.

He has authored several publications on corrosion testing, including the barrel plating and accelerated corrosion testing sections of the Metal Finishing Guidebook and Directory and the cabinet testing section of the American Society of Materials (ASM) Handbook.

ASTM International is one of the largest international standards development and delivery systems in the world.
