The Iowa Department of Transportation has awarded a $4,997,472 contract for coatings, lead abatement and related rehabilitation work on the Iowa-Illinois Memorial Bridge to Civil Constructors Inc., of Freeport, IL.
The project will begin April 4. Civil Constructors Inc. is owned by the Helm Group Inc.

This project involves rehabilitating the Iowa-Illinois Memorial Bridge, a pair of 5,148-foot by 24-foot dual suspension bridges over the Mississippi River.
Also known as the I-74 Bridge, the bridge carries Interstate 74 between Bettendorf, IA, and Moline, IL, near the geographic center of the Quad Cities. The northbound span was dedicated in 1935; the southbound span, in 1960. Both were upgraded in 1975. The twin suspension spans run 66 feet over the river.
Scope of Work
The project includes two sets of lump-sum items for abrasive-blast cleaning and recoating steel floor beam surfaces below a rehabilitated deck area. The existing coatings contain lead; containment and paint waste transport and disposal will be required.
The project also includes pressure-washing existing bridge surfaces for maintenance cleaning purposes. Additional information is available at the above-listed URL.
