Polygon has introduced the Humidity Control Unit 8000 (HCU-8000), which combines cooling and desiccant dehumidification technologies in one system designed for energy efficiency.
The unit controls dew-point temperatures in hot, humid climates and is suitable for use in structural drying, temporary humidity control in building construction, and condensation and corrosion control.
Dew Points to 40° F
The HCU-8000 removes humidity using a packaged refrigeration system with an absorbent high-carbon desiccant wheel. The unit operates cost-effectively, the manufacturer says, because the energy required for the regeneration of the desiccant wheel is recycled from the condenser waste heat. The result is a unit integrally designed for optimal performance in even the highest humidity load conditions, the company says.
Traditional mechanical systems must cool the air below the desired dew point in order to remove moisture, requiring more energy to reheat the air to obtain delivered air with low relative humidity, according to Polygon, formerly a division within Munters
“Use of the HCU can result in 25 to 40% overall energy savings while delivering dew-point temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and dry-bulb temperatures near 70 degrees Fahrenheit for typical industrial applications during warmer summer months,” said David Simkins, director of industrial services for Polygon.
Product Features
Features include:
• Built-in digital controller;
• Remote monitoring capability;
• Selection of humidity or temperature demand as the control point;
• High-efficiency scroll compressors;
• Titanium-enhanced silica gel wheel with carbon; and
• Variable frequency drives for capacity control.
Three HCU rental units are available: the HCU-3000, with air flow of 3,000 cubic feet per minute (cfm); the HCU-6000, with air flow of 6,000 cfm; and the HCU-8000, with air flow of 8,000 cfm.
