Atsalis Brothers Painting Co., of Clinton Township, MI, has been awarded a $15,507,200 contract to clean and recoat 19 bridges in Kenton County, KY.
The contract, awarded in November by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, involves cleaning and recoating existing structural steel surfaces on bridges approaching, carrying, or crossing I-275.
Scope of Work
The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and coated with a three-coat, urethane-based, organic zinc-rich system. The coatings will be selected from the Transportation Cabinets approved materials for a Class II, Type I or II paint system.
The existing coatings are presumed to contain lead; therefore, Class 2A containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required.

The other bidders on the project and their bids were: Vimas Painting Company Inc. ($20.6 million); Intech Contracting LLC ($21.3 million); Hercules Painting Co. Inc. ($24.4 million); and North Star Painting Co. Inc. ($28.3 million).
