Masterchem Industries has introduced KILZ Masonry and Stucco Primer, an alkali-resistant primer that can be used on recently poured masonry and stucco surfaces.
The primer allows painting contractors to prime and paint masonry surfaces seven days after construction, compared to a wait of at least 30 days for non-alkali-resistant primers, the manufacturer says.
The primer is designed for contractors who need to prime and paint a newly constructed masonry building faster, while lowering the risk of lime burn, discoloration and efflorescence. The primer penetrates and binds light surface chalk, creating a surface that is ready to be top coated, the company says.
Features and Performance
KILZ says the interior/exterior multipurpose formula adheres to a variety of substrates and offers soap-and-water cleanup. The primer also reportedly is:
- 100% Styrene Acrylic;
- Alkali resistant up to 13.0 pH;
- Clear in color and dries to a matte sheen;
- Efflorescence resistant; and
- Engineered to bond to light chalky surfaces.
KILZ Masonry and Stucco primer is designed and formulated for use on properly prepared interior and exterior above-grade masonry, stucco, plasters and poured and precast concrete.
The primer is available in a five-gallon size at select Lowe’s stores in Arizona, California, Florida, New Mexico, Nevada, and Texas.
St. Louis-based Masterchem Industries specializes in architectural paints and primers, waterproofers, concrete care products, applicators and stains.
