Stop It HP, new from InduMar Products Inc. of Houston, is a leak sealant product designed for applications with working pressures up to 1500 psi.
Stop It HP extends leak sealing procedures to significantly higher pressures than the original Stop It formulation. The company says laboratory testing has demonstrated an excellent degree of reproducibility as well as a significant margin of safety with respect to the upper pressure limit.
Stop It HP application is a two-step procedure. First, a two-part sealant is mixed and applied in a thin coating over the leak and surrounding areas. Each pre-measured mix will cover about 25 square inches. The second step is wrapping the treated area with a polymer tape similar to that in the original Stop It Pipe Repair System.
Prep and Timing
Surface preparation consists of removing any loose scale, lubricants or greases. The system should be relieved of all pressure until the product is fully applied and cured. Application surfaces should be dried before applying the first component and warmed if the pipe surface is below 50º F.
As a multicomponent system, Stop It HP takes longer to apply than the original Stop It product. After preparation of the area to be treated, the mixing of the first component requires about 15 minutes before application.
The sealant is then applied in a thin coat over the damaged area. It must then be allowed to partially cure for about an hour. After this, the polymer tape may be applied. The exact application time will depend on the specific conditions under which the product is being applied.
