International Paint has expanded its range of antifouling coatings and enhanced the line-up with higher-volume-solids products that are said to reduce overspray, VOC emissions and the number of coats per scheme.
Overall, the three-tier product line offers ship owners, operators and ship yards “a full range of operational cost, environment and in-service performance benefits,” the company says.
The range features Intersmooth SPC, the company’s highest-performing, self-polishing copolymer antifouling; Interspeed, an economical option; and new Interswift, which blends technologies of the other lines.
Intersmooth SPC
Intersmooth7460HS SPC and Intersmooth7465HS SPC are pure hydrolyzing, self-polishing copolymer antifoulings for deep-sea vessels. The products feature high-volume solids and are low VOC.
Patented copper acrylate technology delivers controlled chemical dissolution of the paint film, which ensures continued smoothing over long drydocking intervals, the manufacturer says. Predictable polishing enables specifications to be tailored to specific ship types and operational profiles, while thin leached layers allow simple cleaning and recoating at drydockings. Both Intersmooth7460HS SPC and 7465HS SPC provide fouling control for up to 60 months. The Intersmooth SPC line has been used on more than 15,000 vessels worldwide, the company says. The Intersmooth360 SPC and 365 SPC variants are designed for coastal vessels.
Interspeed, Interswift
New Interspeed 6400 and Interspeed 6200 have been developed from controlled depletion polymer (CDP)-based technology that has been used on more than 11,000 vessels. These products are designed for up to 36 months in service.
New Interswift 6800HS is a high-volume-solids, low-VOC blend of copper acrylate SPC technology and rosin-based CDP technology, the supplier says. The product provides up to 60 months fouling control in service, with performance that lies between the company’s other antifouling lines.
Interswift 6800HS “has the CDP benefits of surface tolerance, high-volume solids and an attractive cost base, together with the patented copper acrylate SPC attributes of polishing rate control, reduced leached layer size and control of biocide release,” said Mike Hindmarsh, Business Development Manager for Biocidal Antifoulings.
Also available is Interswift 455FB, designed for the fouling challenge of flat bottom areas.
