3M Company’s Construction and Home Improvement Markets Division (St. Paul, Minn.) introduced several jobsite protection products for painting and construction projects that the company says were developed with input from painters.
The products include the following.
• The Hand-Masker™ Dirt Catcher Super Sticky Mats are designed to help reduce tracking of dirt and debris on job sites. The mat, when placed at entrances and exits to work areas, grabs dirt and helps keep the entire job site cleaner, the company says.
The durable mat comes with a non-skid backing and a pad of 15 sheets that peel off, one at a time. When the mat is filled with dirt, the top sheet is simply peeled away to expose a clean one.
The mats are available in a starter pack that includes one reusable, non-skid mat and 15 super-sticky sheets. A refill pad with 15 sheets is also sold separately; the products are available in paint, hardware, and home-improvement retail outlets.
• The Hand-Masker™ Flex & Form Conformable Runner is reported to offer quick and versatile surface protection during construction and paint jobs. The runner’s conformable edge material allows users to bend, wrap, or fold the edge so it stays in place—around banisters, railings, cabinets, against walls, up staircases, and around other elements. In the event of a spill, the runner’s 10-ounce, professional-grade canvas is thick enough to protect surfaces while it is moved away, the company says.
The runner is offered in two configurations: a one-sided conformable edge for floors, railings, banisters, cabinets, countertops, and other elements, and a two-sided conformable edge designed to hold its shape on staircases, despite foot traffic. The product is available through paint dealers.
• The Hand-Masker™ Floor Gripper Anti-Slip Runner is described as a surface-gripping runner that protects floors from tracking or spills while providing a slip-resistant surface. The runner is reported to firmly grip a variety of interior and exterior surfaces such as carpet, hardwood, tile, and concrete without the use of adhesive, so it can be repositioned and reused.
The runner offers dual-action, anti-skid, anti-slip surface protection, with surface-gripping properties that ensure the runner won’t slide out from underfoot. The runner can be used with or without a traditional drop cloth; when used with a drop cloth, it helps hold canvas in place.
The reusable, puncture- and solvent-resistant runner provides a leakproof, anti-skid protective surface that repositions easily without floor damage and leaves no residue behind, the company says. The runner also can be cleaned and reused repeatedly.
The 3.5-foot-wide runner is available in 15- and 50-foot lengths, either folded or on a roll that can be cut to length. It is available through most paint dealers.
