Celanese Emulsion Polymers (Charlotte, N.C.) recently introduced two vinyl acetate ethylene resins for environmentally friendly paint and coatings products. The EcoVAE® 405 and 408 emulsions have been added to EcoVAE 401, a product introduced in 2008.
The resin products meet the company’s EcoVAE Criteria Checklist, which includes eco-friendly properties such as very low odor, APE-free, low residual monomer level, and formulation capability for low- to near-zero-VOC coatings, said Jared Elliott, Celanese paint and coating marketing manager. The 405 emulsion is reported to offer superior durability, for use in paint and coatings products for tough environments such as kitchens and playrooms, where frequent cleaning occurs.
The 408 emulsion was designed for formulation into freeze-thaw-stable paints for cold climates. The product is reported to offer a balance of wet-scrub performance, low odor, and freeze-thaw stability.
