Kelly-Moore Paint Company Inc. (San Carlos, Calif.) introduced KM Professional Water-Oil Hybrid, described as a low-VOC, high-quality interior/exterior alkyd enamel that offers durability and water cleanup.
The product, available at the company’s stores, is offered in satin, semigloss, and gloss sheens, and as a primer-undercoater, with tinting to a range of custom colors.
The primer and enamel products are formulated with alkyd resins that are suspended in water, and are reported to offer ease of application and workability typical with alkyd enamels and cleanup without mineral spirits normally associated with oil-based paints.
The company says the paint emits little odor during application, with good flow and leveling, and provides a high degree of sealing, surface penetration, and cured hardness of the finish. Recommended applications include interior and exterior surfaces that require a high-quality, durable finish. Resistance to fingerprints, softening from skin oil, marring, and chipping make the product well suited for kitchens, windows and doors, and exterior garage doors. The product offers stain blocking, and can be used on properly primed or previously painted interior or exterior wood, metal, and other sound surfaces, the company says.
Mark Zielinski, Kelly-Moore Paints vice president of business development, said the product offers the “forgiveness of an alkyd enamel, but cleans up with water, and it stays open longer, allowing painters to go back and smooth out any imperfections before the paint dries.”
