The American Galvanizers Association recently announced the winners of the 2010 Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing competition, with the “Most Distinguished” award going to the Delta Port Third Berth expansion in Delta, British Columbia, with galvanizing by Silver City Galvanizing Inc.

In all, more than 90 awards-program submissions, representing projects completed in 2009, were independently judged in 13 categories by architects and engineers.
A total of 17 submissions were recognized in awards that included a new “Lifetime Achievement” designation, created to recognize projects in service for a minimum of 15 years. The honor went to Valmont Irrigation Systems, in projects done by Valley Galvanizing.
The submissions spanned a range of projects, from delicate, inspired artistic pieces to sprawling tons of structural framework, the Galvanizers Association said, adding that the artistic winners “evoked motion, while bridges stretched broadly across the water and communication towers pierced heavenward.
“Whimsy and wonder inspired the Escher-like Building and Architecture winner, as well as the Morris Arboretum Tree Adventure in Recreation and Entertainment and the forest-like water park in Water and Marine,” the association said in announcing the winners. “Somber and lovely, the donated Civic Contribution winners will carry on in celebration, while bustling processing plants, unloading facilities, transportation stops, conveyors, ports, and irrigation systems will continue their daily grind uninhibited by corrosion.”
