The Garland Company Inc. (Cleveland, Ohio) announced the expansion of its reflective roof coatings product line with the introduction of the Pyramic Base Coat, described as an applicator-friendly base-coat solution that is durable, environmentally friendly, versatile, and easy to apply.
The natural buff color of the coating allows the applicator to see where the base coat and finish coats have been applied, providing a method for ensuring proper coverage. The coating is based on a water-based, all acrylic, self-curing latex polymer, and can be applied over BUR, modified-bitumen, and asphalt-emulsion coated surfaces to prepare the surface for application of reflective topcoats.
The coating can be applied by brush, roller, or spray, and can be topcoated within four to eight hours, the company says. The coating is reported to provide protection against UV exposure, cracking, shrinking, and surface erosion, while blocking asphalt oils from discoloring the topcoat. A coating system composed of the base coat and reflective topcoat is reported to reduce rooftop temperatures by 50 to 80 F (10-27 C). The reflective coating product line conforms to ASTM E 108 fire rating standards, the company says. More information: www.garlandco.com.
