Rhodia (Paris, France) introduced Rhodoline® OTE, described as an APE-free and zero-VOC additive that significantly extends the open time of water-borne coatings, facilitating the formulation of high-performance, low- to zero-VOC coatings.
Increased open time allows painters time to work overlays (lapping) seamlessly or effectively execute touch-up work to correct imperfections such as drips and brush marks. The additive also is reported to enhance gloss and contribute to stain and scrub resistance and freeze-thaw stability.
The company says the low-odor solution has been developed to contribute to the formulation of "eco-friendly" coatings that comply with Green Seal (GS-11) or EU eco-label requirements.
The product can be used in a range of polymer resin chemistries, including acrylic, styrene acrylic, vinyl acrylic, and ethylene vinyl acetate, the company says.
