Resin for High-Performance Masonry Coatings

Eliokem (Akron, Ohio) introduced Hyro Pliolite® 040, a water-based acrylic copolymer emulsion formulated for use in high-performance masonry coatings. The company says the product is based on its proprietary “emulsified binding system,” reported to facilitate substrate penetration and adhesion to various surfaces, including those previously coated with a solvent-borne product.

The emulsified binding system consists of a dissolved, water-borne polymer emulsified in water. The resin is reported to contribute to the performance of concrete cure and seal products, and can be formulated to comply with ASTM 1315, Standard Specification for Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds Having Special Properties for Curing and Sealing Concrete. The company says the resin forms a film while the water evaporates, and leaves a dissolved polymer to penetrate and adhere to previously coated substrates where solvent-based or water-based sealers were used. The resin is reported to facilitate superior penetration of and adhesion to various substrates, including previously coated surfaces and fresh concrete.

Recommended applications include primers, exterior masonry coatings, and membranes for horizontal and tilt-up concrete.
