SSPC has a BCI: Coatings Inspection Training and Certification for the Bridge Industry Tech Level/Level 1 Course planned for March 8–12 at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in Frankfort, KY.
The BCI Course was developed by an expert task group assembled of bridge facility owners (DOTs and Bridge and Tunnel Authorities) to serve as a certification process for bridge coatings inspectors. The program consists of three days of lecture and practical hands-on instruction, a course examination, and a certification examination. It is designed for bridge coatings inspection personnel, such as facility owners, contractors, and consultants.
The course covers the fundamentals of how to inspect surface preparation and application of protective coatings on bridge steel. It also covers unique situations that will affect inspection in the field, as well as the fundamental inspection skills required to inspect new bridge steel painted in the shop or in the field or maintenance systems applied in the field.
