Site Lets Contractors, Suppliers Deal

A new web service allows contractors to post their supply needs online and suppliers to send them private offers in return.

The site, www.bidformaterials.com, connects suppliers and contractors online, says co-owner Frederick Cann Jr.

Cann has been in commercial and residential construction for more than 20 years. He traces much of his success to his passion for getting the best price possible for materials.

“That’s why my company is always busy, even in a down market,” says Cann. “Since the onset of the most recent recession, I’ve been even more motivated.”

The website allows construction professionals to create profiles and gain access to a nationwide database of suppliers and contractors. Contractors have the opportunity to post lists of supplies they need, and suppliers are able to send private offers for what they are able to provide.

With partners Tom Costarelli and Allen Weinstein, Cann says he hopes that his Long Island-based operation will help suppliers find more outlets for their materials, contractors get better prices on those materials, and homeowners get the most for their home-improvement dollar.

“Suppliers get unlimited leads, which improves their sales as well,” says Cann. “It’s a no-brainer.”
