ISP Performance Chemicals (Wayne, NJ) announced a new series of "greener" biocides that function as protection products for water-based industrial formulations, such as coatings and adhesives.
Nuosept® BMc 422 is offered as a greener biocide than previous generations of Nuosept® products and is produced from a blend of BIT, MIT, and low levels of CIT. The company says the product is active against microbes, bacteria, and fungi at use levels ranging from 0.05-0.5 percent by weight. It is designed to be an in-can preservation system for water-based paints and coatings systems, aqueous polymer emulsions and latex systems, adhesives, and sealants. The preservative can be added at any point in the production cycle, according to the company. It is sold in 20-liter pails, 55-gallon stainless steel drums, and 330-gallon totes.
Nuosept® W Concentrate is a broad spectrum preservative that combines the antimicrobial effects of CIT/MIT and Bronopol at higher concentrations. According to the company, it is effective at very low use levels and does not contain formaldehyde. Typical use levels for the preservation of adhesives, tackifiers, coatings, and detergents range from 0.025-0.1 percent by weight, the company says. It is sold in 20-liter pails, 55-gallon stainless steel drums, and 330-gallon totes.
