The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the Jobs for Main Street Act (H.R. 2847), which contains key investments for infrastructure and public housing projects.
The bill passed, 217-212, on Dec. 16. The measure, endorsed by the American Subcontractors Association, includes:
- $48.3 billion in investments for highway, transit, rail, maritime and clean water projects as well as public housing programs.
- An extension of the current surface transportation authorization until Sept. 30, 2010, while Congress considers a full six-year reauthorization.
The bill also contains a six-month extension of the Recovery Act COBRA subsidy to help unemployed individuals maintain health insurance and $354 million to continue two Small Business Administration temporary loan guarantee programs through Sept. 30, 2010.
The U.S. Senate is expected to take up this measure in January.
