NOVA Announces New CEO

NOVA Chemicals has announced that Randy Woelfel has joined the company and will become its chief executive officer. Woelfel will replace Christopher D. Pappas, who has announced his retirement.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, NOVA Chemicals develops and manufactures chemicals, plastic resins, and end products, including resins for membranes and liners for water tanks and chemical storage containers. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Woelfel started his career with Shell Oil Company in 1977 and was part of the team that helped create Montell Polyolefins in 1995, now a part of LyondellBasell. He held the positions of president of Basell International and president of Basell North America. Woelfel’s most recent positions were as managing director energy at the Houston Technology Center and president of bioplastics developer at Cereplast, Inc.
