Dow Polyurethanes (Horgen, Switzerland) has launched Echelon™ MU 290 specialty isocyanate, which can improve clarity in coatings and related products, the company says.
Described as a uretonimine-modified, methylene diphenyl diisocyanate- (MDI-) based solution, the product offers good compatibility for mixing and improved clarity for the creation of products with lighter color requirements. It also offers reduced emissions and greater handling and storage flexibility compared to conventional Dow products, the company says.
The new liquid isocyanate is designed to have improved shelf life and low temperature flexibility, allowing it to be stored more economically and conveniently at room temperature, compared to pure MDI. Low-temperature storage stability alleviates concerns associated with the crystallization of pure MDI during shipping and handling, according to the company.
The product can be used for quasi- and full prepolymers as well as for two-component urethane coatings, adhesives, sealants, and solid and microcellular elastomers.
Dow Polyurethanes is a business group within The Dow Chemical Company.
