Sto Corp. introduced StoGuard RapidSeal™, a one-component air barrier and waterproof material used to protect rough openings and for transition detailing in above-grade wall construction. The product’s rapid dry time usually allows for same-day installation of windows or topcoating with other wall-assembly components, and the product is compatible with most common building materials, including concrete, concrete masonry, brick, gypsum sheathing, wood, and cement-based sheathings, the company says.
In addition to rapid cure, the company says the product can be used without mesh, fabric, and tapes at rough openings when used with StoGuard coatings; cures in wet weather and on damp substrates; adheres to damp substrates without blistering or increase in dry time; can be used down to near-freezing temperatures; and is low in VOCs and compliant with all national, state, and local VOC regulatory requirements in the U.S. and Canada.
The product is described as high build, with a resilient surface that prevents damage during construction, and characterized by a high degree of elongation to bridge cracks and seams in construction without tearing. The material’s water-vapor permeability resists blistering from trapped moisture.
