Zinsser introduced Zinsser Smart Prime, a water-based primer formulated with a proprietary resin system designed to resist re-wetting and stains from water and water-soluble stains.
The product is reported to offer performance properties such as superior flow and leveling and substrate penetration, and effective sealing of all oil-soluble stains such as grease, crayon, tar, and asphalt. The product also offers rapid dry time, exterior flexibility, soap and water cleanup in a low-odor, low-VOC formula, and adhesion to various surfaces, included dense, glossy surfaces such as enamel paints and varnishes, paneling, laminates, or ceramic tile.
Tannin-blocking capability makes the product a good choice for priming cedar, redwood, and other new wood substrates, the company says. Other recommended applications include bare or painted surfaces such as drywall, aluminum, vinyl, steel, galvanized metal, and PVC.
The product also seals porous surfaces, such as cured plaster, concrete, stucco, and masonry, and binds chalky siding and trim. Other properties include a high degree of hide and enamel hold-out, even over dark color topcoats, the company says. Recoat time is one hour.
